PORTLAND is on standby on Wednesday for a cruise ship carrying up to 1800 passengers and 800 crew.
P&O Cruise’s Pacific Pearl is expected to arrive at Robe on Wednesday.
However, forecasted inclement weather late last week resulted in P&O listing Portland as a contingency plan if the weather forces the ship to bypass Robe en route from KangarooIsland.
P&O said it would decide tomorrow if the ship will bypass Robe and call into Portland instead.
A company spokeswoman said yesterday it appeared as though the predicted weather forecast had eased and that it appeared the ship would still berth at Robe, but the final decision would still be made tomorrow.
The Glenelg Shire Council was notified of the situation last Thursday morning, with the Port of Portland confirming a berth would be available for the Pacific Pearl and that arrangements could be accommodated within the 24-hour advice time.
