ANZAC Day football conjures many emotions in the players who will take to the field today.
Portland and Hamilton Kangaroos will delve into the contest with more than football on their minds when the siren blows for the opening bounce at HanlonPark.
It shapes as a chance for all players to reflect, appreciate and pay their respects.
Both sides continue to build a formidable rivalry on the field and the esteemed Ted Kenna VC Memorial Cup shapes as the ultimate prize for the winner.
It adds extra incentive to what is already shaping as a spicy contest between the two rivals.
Hamilton Kangaroos coach Jarrod Holt said the day held an extra significance for his playing group.
“I have spoke to the players about the importance of the day and that it is a privilege to play on the day and not to lose that,” Holt said.
“Whilst playing footy we need to recognise the significance of it and remember that history which definitely makes it worthwhile.
“I want to make sure that it is not lost on the players.”
