RESIDENTS of Bupa Portland have put together a collection of military medals, photographs and letters, and are making wreathes in respect of family members who serviced Australia in war time.
As part of the Anzac Day display, residents such as Barry Flavell and Mary Milledge have lent their keepsakes for public view.
Mr Flavell has shared four medals that were awarded to his father, Corporal A. Flavell, including one for Distinguished Conduct in 1917 as a member of the Australian Imperial Forces.
“This award is only second to the Victorian Cross. He held a post single-handedly when all of his men had fallen,” he said.
Mrs Milledge proudly exhibited her late husband’s medals. He served in the First World War and was a causality of the Changi Prison.
