“WHERE’S Warbo? Why isn’t he here in Portland?”
That was the question posed to former Caltex chairman Dick Warburton, who will chair a review of Australia’s Renewable Energy Target, a subject of vital concern to Steve Garner and the workforce at Keppel Prince Engineering.
Mr Garner joined on Wednesday with Leigh Ewbank, Friends of the Earth renewable energy coordinator, to launch a petition drive to convince Premier Denis Napthine and Prime Minister Tony Abbott to support retaining the RET and protect wind energy jobs.
“Mr Warburton was invited to attend this 11-stop fact-finding mission to help inform his review of the renewable energy policy,” Mr Ewbank said, “but he has refused our invitation.”
“The review of the Renewable Energy Target will have implications for Australia’s energy future. It must consider the impacts on jobs if it’s to be taken seriously,” Mr Ewbank added.
“There’s no better place to get an understanding of renewable energy jobs that Portland. The panel ought to visit south-west Victoria and speak with community members.”
