HAMILTON basketball identity Doug Palmer has been bestowed with a prestigious honour in recognition of his outstanding service to the development of referees.
At the annual general meeting of the Victorian Basketball Referees Association at Nunawading Basketball Stadium, Doug was nominated and received a Special Service Award for long (and very honourable) service to the development of basketball referees in Victoria.
At the meeting the award was presented to Doug by Ron Burgess, who was for many yeas the Victorian Basketball Rules Interpreter.
When Doug first made an attempt to gain his State A1 grading in 1982 it was Ron who supervised his examination and at the end of same told him “that because you come from a restrictive area of Victoria you don’t have much hope of getting anywhere”.
