PORTLAND police are set to carry tasers, after a $13.5 million roll out was announced by the State Government this week.
But when the tasers will appear in the city is unknown.
Funding for the tasers will be available from July 1 this year, but details of officer training or timeframes for the introduction of the weapons have not yet been set.
Portland Police Acting Sergeant Darren Hannegraf said he had not received any information about when Portland would receive the tasers.
Victorian police and emergency services minister Kim Wells this weeke said tasers would be used in all 24-hour police stations across regional Victoria.
Mr Wells said following successful trials in six major regional centres, the government will provide funding to rollout 580 new tasers to 29 regional areas.
