THE notorious section of the Henty Hwy (ring road) between New St and the rail overpass will not be repaired until after winter, despite almost $1 million being allocated in August last year to fix the road.
VicRoads acting regional director Gerry George announced on Wednesday that contractor Downer EDI Works Pty Ltd would not start until after winter to enable the road to be fixed properly.
“The road may become unworkable if it is too wet and this would be a major inconvenience for the thousands of vehicles using the highway every day,” he said.
“The preferred option is for the contractor to get in and out as quickly as possible.
“The contractor will begin work when weather conditions are more suitable for road construction, which will result in a better product at the end of the day.”
The condition of the section of the ring road is among the worst in the region for a major arterial route.
