DROP progeny from 37 of Australia’s leading sheep sires went on show at the Elders Balmoral sire evaluation field day at Wando Estate.
About 120 people attended the field day at Wando Estate, to view the results of trials from 2012 and 2013.
Sire evaluation trial chairman, Tom Silcock said the field day was a chance to showcase latest in livestock management and genetic technologies.
He said the trial, which had run every year since 1998, focussed on getting genetic gains quicker.
“The sheep have changed an awful lot in that time because of what we are seeing and what’s working because of all the additional measurements,” Mr Silcock said.
“When we first started we were probably only comparing mostly local genetics, with perhaps the odd sire from interstate. Now we are comparing genetics from all around Australia in every trial, including Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and New South Wales.
