INTERNET sensations, Djuki Mala – formerly known as The Chooky Dancers – will bring their innovative dance performance to Hamilton’s Performing Arts Centre.
Hailing from the Galiwin’ku community on Elcho Island in North East Arnhem Land, Djuki Mala fuse traditional Aboriginal and contemporary forms of dance, comedy and clowning with natural athleticism and virtuosic skill that will warm the heart and soul of audiences.
They will perform in Hamilton as part of their self-titled 2014 national tour.
Following electrifying appearances at festivals at Beijing New Year 2010 (China), Taipei International Flora Expo 2010, Taiwan, Festival of Pacific Arts – Australian delegation 2012, Solomon Islands and Montreal Comedy Festival and the MOHAWK First Nations Festival 2013 in Canada, Djuki Mala has returned to Australia to continue their evolution in defining contemporary Aboriginal performance practices.
