HE first home game for the newly merged Casterton-Sandford Football-Netball Club saw a huge crowd in attendance to watch the Cats beat Millicent, and to honour the Life Members from both clubs, who were inducted as life members of the newly formed club.
Casterton-Sandford got off to a good start in the seniors with a Madison Rogers foray forward, which was finished off by a snap shot goal from Coach Dylan Ayton.
The first goal was quickly followed by a second when Ayton passed to the electric Joshua Stephenson who marked and goaled.
The Cats had the majority of play, but the Millicent defence was holding its own repelling the Cats’ attacks on the last line until the wily veteran Jason Harvey saw an opening that a Mount Arapiles climber wouldn’t get through, when he smashed through the gathered Millicent players and kicked the Cats’ third goal.
The Cats continued to link up well from defence through the likes of Chris Talbot, Nicholas Upton and Rick Smith with no reward and it took until the 15 minute mark of the quarter for Millicent to register their first goal through a smart piece of play by Phil O’Loughlin.
