THE Victorian Freeride Association held a social day at Bridgewater on Sunday, with local member Leigh Watt pleased with how it went.
Around 30 jet skiers took part in the event, the first of its kind in Portland, aimed at introducing people to what freeriding is all about and educating users about the safe use of jet skis.
Watt said VICFA was formed in 2010 as a response to concerns about the misuse of Personal Water Crafts (PWC) to help ensure PWC users and other waterways users could share the waterways without trouble.
“It was formed by a bunch of guys between here and around the Bairnsdale area who were having trouble with local jet skiers getting in trouble through doing the wrong thing.
“The Association was formed so we could get a lot of people on board and educate them to make sure we were all doing the right thing.
“Obviously we are perceived as a bit of a menace and this is one way to show people the rules and regulations.
