HEYWOOD maintained its unbeaten run in the South West District Football League on Saturday, overpowering Tyrendarra to win by 40 points in a low key affair at Heywood.
While the wintry conditions kept the crowd numbers down they did little to slow down the run of the Lions, who moved the ball beautifully at times in transition into their forward line.
Both sides were missing a handful of their key players from the match, with the Darras calling up reserves leading goal kicker Simon Easterbrook to replace Kaleb Sherwell in the forward 50 and the Lions giving a senior chance to Josh Schultz and Tyson Lovett-Murray for the first time this season.
The match was set up in the opening quarter for the Lions, who outscored Tyrendarra despite kicking to what had been the non-scoring end throughout the reserves match.
A 15-point advantage for the Lions heading into the second quarter soon became a five-goal advantage through the second, with the Darras finding it hard to get shots on goal under strong pressure from the Heywood defence.
Leigh Malseed was terrific for Heywood in the backline, playing the generals role in what was a less experienced back six than normal for the Lions and at half time the Darras had just three goals to their name, trailing by 30 points.
