THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge became aware of the Hamilton initiated program Wool4Skool, during their tour of Australia.
At the Sydney Royal Easter Show, last year’s winning dress from the program was modelled for the Duchess of Cambridge as it was inspired by her.
The Woolmark Company corporate communications manager, Marius Cuming said when he heard the royal couple were coming to Australia he got in contact with the Prime Minister’s office and outlined the Wool4Skool project.
“It was kind of meant to be, I was drenching sheep in the yards and the Prime Minister’s office rang and said they loved the idea,” Mr Cuming said.
Mr Cuming said last year’s Wool4Skool program involved designing a garment for a royal.
“Last year we had 1200 entries from around Australia of students who had designed a garment … 90 per cent of them were for the Duchess,” he said.
Last year’s winner, Sophie Alyward from Orange, designed a dress for the Duchess for her to wear to a cocktail party.
