THE Country Fire Authority has appointed a new operations manager for the district.
Appointed in late March, Richard Bourke brings with him a wealth of experience after a long history in the CFA.
Overseeing CFA District 5, Mr Bourke will be in charge of operations in Hamilton, Broadwater, Hawkesdale, Mortlake, Strathmore and Warrnambool.
Having started his career in Hamilton over 10 years ago, Mr Bourke is hopeful his knowledge of the area can be useful to the community.
“I started here in Hamilton back in 2001 as a senior wildfire instructor and worked here for seven and a half years,” he said.
“I travelled extensively throughout the south-west going to all of the little brigades doing training in skills such as crew leader, team leader and so forth, I got to know a lot of people and where all the little communities are.”
Moving from training to operations in 2007, Mr Bourke worked as an operations officer in Horsham and The Moyne Shire before recently returning to Hamilton.
“It’s good to come back, because of my background in training I know the area and a lot of people here,” he said.
