IT may have only being a month, but it felt like an eternity for Branxholme-Wallacedale to record its first victory of the 2014 South West District Football League season after it defeated Heathmere on Saturday.
Heathmere is now the only side without a win this season after it was defeated by 31 points at the Heathmere Recreation Reserve.
Both sides were desperate to join the winner’s list for the first time this season and nothing separated the rivals at the main change.
Scores were locked at 20-apiece in a low scoring first half as the match appeared likely to go down the wire.
The premiership quarter would prove the most decisive of the contest, with Branxholme-Wallacedale holding Heathmere goalless while adding three of its own.
The floodgates opened in the final quarter as Heathmere produced one final tilt at catching its rivals.
The Magpies would score three more goals, but the damage was done when Branxholme-Wallacedale piled on a further five to seal the victory.
