A FAST-finishing Westerns has defeated Coleraine by 14 goals in the South West District Netball League following a strong last quarter at Alexandra Park on Saturday.
Coleraine produced seven unanswered goals at the beginning of the contest which left a shocked Westerns line-up desperately trying to claw back into contention for what appeared to be an unlikely win.
The young Westerns side managed to find a rhythm and consistency as the match went on and eventually reduced the margin back to just one-goal by quarter time.
Senior coach Lisa Bampfield was pleased her side was able to turn around the contest before the quarter time break.
“They were a bit nervous at the start, we just couldn’t get the ball into the circle but we had plenty of possession early,” Bampfield said.
“There were plenty of interceptions and poor decisions but we had good experience and leadership from our senior players to get us back in the contest.”
Westerns forwards Eliza Alexander and Kate Sullivan created a damaging duo in attack which firmly placed the pressure on Dallas Moyle and Briana Picken in the defensive end for Coleraine.
