THE selfless decision to brave raging floodwaters to save another person, has seen a Casterton youth awarded a Bronze Bravery Medal from the Royal Humane Society of Australasia.
Tom McPeake, 18, received the award after rescuing a woman from dangerous floodwaters in Goolwa, South Australia on July 27, 2012.
South Australian Governor, Kevin Scarce, presented Mr McPeake with the award at Government House in Adelaide on April 10 of this year.
Working as a volunteer fire-fighter for the Country Fire Service, Mr McPeake was 16 when he entered the flooded Finniss River and rescued the woman who was clinging on to a tree branch.
The woman became stuck when she drove into a flooded ford crossing and was swept away by rising floodwaters.
