FOUR members of the Promoting Heywood and District Committee executive have resigned from the organisation in the wash-up of volunteer Joy Savill’s reinstatement to the committee.
President Tom Ingram, treasurer Alan Hart, Wood Wine and Roses representative Rosie Hart and assistant treasurer Davina Engelman had letters of resignation tabled at Tuesday night’s committee meeting.
Mr Hart was the only one of the four to attend Tuesday’s meeting, presenting his treasurer’s report before leaving, saying he was attending another commitment.
Their letters of resignation gave no reasons for their departure from the committee, however, Mr Hart told the Portland Observer before the meeting that the fallout was because of the coverage of Mrs Savill’s suspension and reinstatement.
He said there was an element within Promoting Heywood that had been “white-anting” decisions made by the leadership group, and that good people would be lost from the group.
Mrs Savill, a long-serving volunteer within the Heywood community was suspended for two years earlier this year from being a financial member of Promoting Heywood or any of its associated splinter groups.
