AFTER a successful debut year in 2013 organisers of the Winter Solstice Fun Run are expecting the event to be even bigger when it returns for a second year on June 22.
Running from the Cape Nelson Lighthouse to Whalers Bluff Lighthouse before hooking back to finish at the Ploughed Field, the Winter Solstice Fun Run takes runners along a moderately challenging but incredibly scenic route.
Race Director Maya Eats she and the other race organisers had received great reviews on the course and the event itself last year and based on the feedback from that event and energy already building up around this year’s event they hoped to almost double the participation levels this year.
“Last year’s inaugural event saw 170 walkers and runners braving hills, sand, stairs and winter weather, with the feature ‘lighthouse to lighthouse’ course attracting rave reviews from local and visiting runners alike,” Eats said.
“Having 170 last year in the event’s first year was a great result, so it would be nice if we were around the 300 mark this year.”
