THE Tyrendarra Sports Club formally unveiled its new netball and tennis facility to the public with the help of Victorian Premier Denis Napthine on Saturday in front of a solid crowd of maybe 80 onlookers.
The facility, which features two purpose built synthetic tennis courts and two multipurpose asphalt netball and tennis courts, was the culmination of approximately five year’s work for the TSC, which incorporates the Tyrendarra Football Netball Club, the Tyrendarra Tennis Club and the Tyrendarra Cricket Club.
Perhaps the most impressive element of the facility is the Tyrendarra community itself generated the lion’s share of the $320,000 needed to construct it, chipping in $140,000 as a community, while the Glenelg Shire Council contributed $120,000 and the Victorian Government $60,000.
The upgraded facility also includes improved lighting and fencing and increased run off space around the playing area.
Tyrendarra Sporting Club president Leigh Allen said he was proud of the efforts of the Tyrendarra community to create such a high standard facility at the venue.
