THE Portland Brass Band will be putting on a concert with the Mt Gambier Brass Band to raise money for Huntington’s disease this month.
A Tale of Two Bands was created following one of the Portland Brass Band’s members coming forward about raising awareness about the disease that had personally affected his life, and the idea to raise public awareness about the condition.
Warren Holman and his family’s life was upturned dramatically in 2007 when his wife Christine was diagnosed with Huntington’s chorea.
According to Huntington’s Victoria, the disease is an inherited degenerative neurological condition which results in selective brain cell death.
It is diagnosed through neurological and psychological testing, as well as a review of family history and blood work.
Despite these facts however, Mrs Holman is believed to be the first in her family to be diagnosed with the condition.
