A VAST catalogue of Portland film and fiche will soon be unlocked with a $30,000 grant from the Victorian Government.
The contribution comes from the Regional Growth Fund, while another $15,000 will come from the Glenelg Shire to fund the $45,000 project.
The money will be used to purchase a microfilm reader to access the vast catalogue at the Glenelg Shire’s libraries and Portland’s History House.
Premier and Member for South West Coast Denis Napthine said the grant would open up access the district’s historical records.
“Snapshots of life and recounted stories of the early years of European settlement, which have been unavailable for many years, will now be provided by this project,” Dr Napthine said.
