COLERAINE police are focusing on stopping demand in the war against crystal methamphetamines.
Police say they’ve seen an increase in incidents involving people affected by ice, and say it’s only going to get worse.
A public information session is being held in Coleraine next month, aimed at arming the community with information about the drug.
Coleraine Senior Constable Carly Barcham said she got the idea for the forum after speaking to former Hamilton police Sergeant Rebecca Olsen, who is now based in Mildura.
“It’s such a huge issue up there and she told me it’s only a matter of time before it starts to happen down this way as well,” she said.
“We are already seeing more and more incidents involving people who are affected by it.”
Senior Constable Barcham said she was being approached regularly by people in town, concerned about the drug they are hearing so much about.
