THE premiership credentials of Westerns are in serious doubt following a comprehensive 96-point defeat at the hands of Heywood in the South West District League on Saturday.
Outright second was the reward for the winner as both sides try and catch Dartmoor who have emerged as the team to beat for 2014.
It was also marked the highly anticipated return of Stephen O’Brien to the Heywood Recreation Reserve after he spent two years at the club.
O’Brien joined Heywood when they left the Western Border League and spent two seasons at the club, although he returned to Westerns on the eve of the new season this year.
Heywood coach Jason Saunders was pleased with Clinton Foster’s negating role on O’Brien.
“’Boofa’ done a really good job on him, he sacrificed his own game and nullified his efforts around the ground,” Saunders said.
