AN international expert in the field of child sexual abuse says she is glad communities like Hamilton are starting to deal with the issue.
But Professor Caroline Taylor says there is still so much more that needs to be said and done.
The Ballarat-based researcher and Medal of the Order of Australia recipient was in Hamilton last week for a public forum at St Mary’s Catholic Church.
About 40 people, aged 25 to late 70s, heard about the prevalence of sexual abuse and its impact on victims.
A separate forum involving principals and teachers from the city’s schools was held earlier in the day.
Professor Taylor said she was overwhelmed with the positive responses at both forums.
