A FORMER Branxholme local has been selected to compete in this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Gaye Shale, 46, who now resides in Rutherglen, will put her shooting skills to the test in July when she participates in the women’s double trap event.
Having grown up in Branxholme and attended school in Hamilton, Shale’s selection for the games comes after a long and difficult journey.
“I was born in Hamilton and all of my family live locally in Branxholme, I went to school at Branxholme Primary and then Hamilton High School,” she said.
“I always played a lot of local sport such as netball and basketball … I was competitive from a very young age.”
First picking up a shotgun as a teenager, Shale excelled in local shooting competitions before family life took her on a different path.
