PRIVACY concerns are prompting changes to the men’s changeroom at the Portland Leisure and Aquatic Centre.
It follows outrage expressed by Portland resident Helen Oakley that children are being put at risk because of the existing open layout of the changeroom, especially the showers.
Ms Oakley said she had only been made aware of the open plan in the men’s changeroom recently when her partner made his feelings known about the layout.
“It’s disgusting, I am sure most mothers with children are not aware of the existing layout,” she said.
“They would assume as I have over a long period of time that the men’s room is the same as the women’s where there are cubicles for the showers.
“There should be something done, signs put up something to make mothers aware.
“You have young children, maybe groups of school children, in the same space as grown men in the shower area – it is unacceptable.”
