TIGERSHARKS Gold has withstood a late surge from Shawnee Blue to win the division one men’s basketball grand final at the Lighthouse yesterday.
Tigersharks was seemingly heading toward a comfortable victory and went into half-time leading by four points, although the margin felt greater given their dominance around the court.
The battle between the tall timber – Tigersharks’ Aaron Caldow and Shawnee‘s Brad Clark – failed to disappoint and the pair were prominent early for their respective sides.
They both provided an ominous presence inside the key, and whichever of the pair could be more influential was always going to be important in deciding the contest.
Tigersharks coach Trenton Johnston said Caldow was important for Tigersharks in the premiership win.
“’Azza’ stood up, without him under that ring (we would have lost),” Johnston said.
“We were putting shots up that we were missing and he was coming in and putting them back up.”
