HEYWOOD’S undefeated start to the South West Netball League season is finally over after they lost by five goals to Cavendish at the Heywood Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
It marks the end of a dream start for Heywood, who defeated every team on the way to an imposing 7-0 win-loss record after the first round of matches against each one of the league’s teams.
Cavendish now joins Heywood with an identical 7-1 win-loss record and the two occupy the first and second on the ladder.
They play each other once more in the regular season and appear destined to meet again in a mouth-watering matchup in the finals.
Cavendish coach Brittany Raymond said the side was under no illusions about the magnitude of the task heading into the clash.
“We knew we were the underdogs and it wasn’t going to be easy,” she said.
