TWO prominent Portlanders have called on the community to do more to make Portland attractive and desirable, not to expect the shire council to do it all.
Writing to the editor in today’s edition of The Portland Observer, Wayne Barrett of Seaview Real Estate said he’s concerned by the negativity of some letter-writing citizens.
He said council employees and councillors should not be blamed for what some feel is not working in this community.
“If you are a business owner, chances are the shire employees don’t always understand the challenges you face every day any more than we don’t always understand the regulatory world they live in,” he wrote.
“The best you can hope for is that we reach a point where both get a reasonable outcome for as many people as possible. I see some really smart people on both sides of the discussion about the Glenelg Shire who simply don’t want to let go of the past.”
