SOUTHERN Grampians Shire has admitted that there will be increased costs for Hamilton landfill’s $1.2 million cell and leachate pond expansion, but has denied the current budget will be affected.
However, the draft budget update suggests the project has been significantly delayed with 47 per cent of funding for major landfill works apparently carried over to future budgets.
The shire is now on track to break its previous budget commitment to complete the works by June 30 and, as its own study suggests, runs the risk of reaching the landfill’s capacity at some point in 2014.
