RECORD levels of shipping at the Port of Portland have prompted managers to re-open a dock on the Lee Breakwater to reduce the congestion in the rest of the port.
For the first time in recent years, the SL Patterson berth – most recently used as the tug berth – is now being used by the cargo vessel Sea Maple for log fumigation.
“The port is really busy right now and so we’ve temporarily closed the Lee Breakwater as a risk management issue while this vessel is tied up there,” port CEO Jim Cooper said. “For future vessels, we’ll review the matter.
