THE Glenelg Shire Council budget has been shot to pieces by almost two per cent and there is much work to be done, Mayor John Northcott said from CanberraAirport on Wednesday afternoon.
He spoke as he departed the Australian Local Government Association annual conference, which convened this week.
The major talking point at the conference was the Federal Government’s intention to freeze on CPI increases on its Federal Assistance Grants (FAGS) to local councils, as flagged in Wednesday’s Portland Observer.
“We now need to look at it as a council,” said Cr Northcott.
