THESE days few readers will know that Greater Hamilton can boast at least three Melbourne Cup winners.
The Parisian, in 1911, was the district’s first cup success. It was owned by Mr J. F. Kirby, of “Mt Koroite”, Coleraine.
The second was in 1935. Mr J. Fell, of Mount Napier, and Mr T. Hogan were owners of Marabou, the winning horse that then sired Skipton, which won the same race six years later, again with local owners.
