HALF of Southern Grampians Shire Councillors have reaffirmed their status as independent representatives of ratepayers after the shire’s public relations office answered budget questions on their behalf.
A $6.4 million shortfall in capital works and a $1.1m budget deficit contained in financial update statements presented at council meetings prompted The Spectator to send media questions to individual councillors.
The Spectator received a response directly from the shire’s acting strategic communications coordinator on behalf of councillors.
Shire chief executive, Richard Perry later clarified that the statement should have been labelled “from the Southern Grampians Mayor Albert Calvano on behalf of the councillors as a group”.
