IT is a development borne out of necessity to cater for Portland’s growing reputation as a destination for the recreational tuna fishing industry.
Premier Denis Napthine will officially open the new four-lane boat ramp project this morning and its associated parking area which has an estimated 200 spaces for boat trailers and vehicles.
The area also has eight new fish cleaning tables.
It is expected the project will go a long way to clearing the traffic jams and lengthy waiting times endured by recreational fishermen visiting Portland in peak periods such as Easter.
