WORLD War Two photographer and film maker Damien Parer has strong links with our region.
Parer spent formative years in nearby Portland. As well, some of his greatest work found its way to Hamilton for a time. In 1997, the travelling exhibition ‘Still Action: the War Photographs of Damien Parer’ was on display for several weeks at the Hamilton Art Gallery.
‘Still Action’ featured Parer’s photographs of military campaigns in North Africa, the Middle East, Papua New Guinea and the South West Pacific. The exhibition consisted of many of his finest images and was on the move around Australia for some five years.
