PORTLAND could still be a base for wave power manufacturing, if the city’s business and government leaders have their way.
Glenelg Shire councillors this week voted to write to State and Federal Government leaders seeking urgent support for a wave power manufacturing program in Portland using funds that were previously committed to such a project.
The move comes after Ocean Power Technologies last week withdrew from a $232 million project to which the Federal Government had pledged $66.5 million.
It is that $66.5 million that the Portland community is seeking.
