HORSHAM youth initiative coordinator, Nkandu Beltz, has been named as The Greens candidate for Lowan in the November state election.
Mrs Beltz was born in the African nation of Zambia before moving to Horsham two years ago via Botswana, The Netherlands and seven years living in West Australia.
Her campaign was launched by Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber at a function for the local party faithful and potential swing voters at Mt Zero Olive Grove at Laharum on Sunday.
She will focus her campaign on youth issues, education, public transport, renewable energy and preserving the environment.
The Spectator will publish her first campaign interview on Monday.
