HORTICULTURIST David Garnier will be recognised for a rare milestone on Wednesday – 40 years of service at the Glenelg Shire.
Mr Garnier started his career with local government in Portland on December 11, 1973, and since that day his office has been primarily the Portland Botanic Gardens.
When he arrives at his office every morning he says he hears the birds chirping and looks up at the sky and counts his blessings.
Born in Jersey, Channel Islands off the coast of France, it was at 17 that Mr Garnier decided to travel over foreign waters to Australia.
