MEMBER for Wannon Dan Tehan has thrown his support behind the initiative to manufacture electricity generating ocean buoys in Portland.
“That’s a very positive development,” he said.
“There are wave projects in Australia already, one in Port Fairy and another in Western Australia and if there is interest in another proposal here in Portland then that would have my full support,” he said.
“And I would be more than happy to write to the relevant minister and explain that there was interest here, we’ve had some local businesses get together, and they’ve done all the due diligence that it’s economically viable and therefore can we apply to ARENA (the Australian Renewable Energy Agency) to get some extra funding.”
