PORTLAND residents experienced a shivery blast on Thursday and Friday.
State Emergency Service Portland unit media officer Bernie Stiles said there 13 callouts on Thursday, mainly fallen trees and branches, with a further four callouts on Friday for fallen trees and branches, and roof damage.
The central business district was transformed into a winter wonderland around 11am Friday as it was pelted by a hailstorm – one of several to hit the Portland district during the two days.
It was the result of an intense weather system to hit Victoria with snow reported on the higher peaks of the Grampians, Ballarat and the foothills near Melbourne. Snow also fell on the foothills behind Lorne.
