THE redevelopment of the former Portland Mitre 10 site into a car park has opened the door for a possible expansion of the central bus stop on Henty Street.
It follows a recent site inspection and discussions involving representatives from the Department of Transport, Planning and Local Infrastructure, the Glenelg Shire and Public Transport Victoria.
The meeting between the parties discussed whether there were any opportunities to alter the bus stop to provide space for more buses and improve the road alignment.
Attempts to move the bus stop from the north side of Henty St to the south side failed in 2011, but the closure and subsequent demolition of the old Mitre 10 building has seen the issue being revisited.
