A MAN will spend his 21st birthday in jail after being handed a nine month prison sentence.
Jade Vermeend, 20, formerly of Ballarat Road, Hamilton pleaded guilty in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court to drink driving, driving while disqualified, recklessly causing injury, behaving in a riotous manner in a public place, committing an indictable offence while on bail, possession and use of cannabis and three counts of contravening a bail condition.
Police prosecutor, Senior Constable Nathan Brown said Vermeend was released on bail earlier this year with conditions including that he report to the Hamilton police station, reside in Hamilton, not associate with co-accused and meet a curfew.
