PORTLAND may well be Australia’s urban capital for that great Aussie icon, the koala.
Sharon Webster and Rex Feeley spend a lot of their time rescuing koalas from the streets of Portland and surrounding districts.
“We’re so lucky,” says Ms Webster, “to have our national icon wandering the streets, we definitely have urban dwellers here.”
Ms Feeley has just become an accredited foster carer with the Environment and Primary Industry Department, which is a legal requisite to care for wild animals.
