ONE of the best jobs a journalist can secure on a metropolitan newspaper or news service is that of the sports writer.
Just think of some of the sports they get to cover, including AFL matches all over Australia, test matches and World Cup tournaments here and overseas, tennis around the world, Olympic and Commonwealth games competitions, car racing, horse racing and a multitude of other sports.
When Greg Buckle joined the Hamilton Spectator in 1990, little did he know that one day he would be paid to travel overseas to watch Australia play in a number of test matches, two World Cups and a number of 50-0ver and T20 tournaments.
