THERE is some good news hidden behind south-west Victoria’s latest high unemployment figures, according to Nationals candidate for Lowan Emma Kealy.
Earlier this week The Spectator published state Treasury figures that showed a three-month average unemployment rate of 8.9 per cent for the Warrnambool and south west Victoria region.
Ms Kealy said the local participation rate, between 62 and 67 per cent over the last few months, remained higher than for some other areas.
The participation rate is defined as the ratio of people who are available to work compared with the total population.
