KANAGULK Landcare Group’s long-running dispute with Iluka Resources over certain aspects of the company’s operations has intensified after recent groundwater reports indicated a spike in radiation levels.
The group says it is “very concerned” about the proposal by mineral sands mining company Iluka Resources to expand its “dumping” of “low level radioactive waste”.
“We are not happy with what has happened over the last few years- dumping of concentrated, low level radioactive waste from the Hamilton (Mineral Separation) Plant in an un-lined pit,” the group’s statement said.
