PORTLAND’s Safeway supermarket has a very new look this week – and it took only 14 hours to achieve the makeover.
The most dramatic change has been the addition of Portland’s first self-service checkout stations. On Monday afternoon this week, a small but steady stream of shoppers were using the do-it-yourself stations to make their purchases by swiping items over an electronic reader and using a touch screen.
“We’re aiming to make the store a better place to shop for our customers,” a Woolworths spokesman said. “The self-service checkouts are gradually being introduced as we refurbish stores around Victoria.”
