CASTERTON-SANDFORD’S tilt at the 2014 premiership is over following its 40-point loss to West Gambier in the cut-throat Western Border Football League’s first semi-final played at McDonald Park last Saturday.
It was the first quarter that set the game up for West. Whether it was inexperience, or nerves, or a combination of both, the Cats were left a touch flat-footed as West piled on the goals with scarcely a whimper from the Cats.
West kicked four quick unanswered goals before the Cats hit the scoreboard through the ever-reliable Josh Stephenson. West peppered their forward line and gave the Cats’ defenders little respite, and added a further three goals, before Stephenson again, stood up for the Cats.
